The Force Awakens: A Star Wars Celebration

April 23, 2015

The original Star Wars film was created in the late 1970’s…and now, almost four decades later, the fan following is bigger than ever. If you just took a step into the Star Wars Celebration event held at the Anaheim Convention Center on April 16-19, it would blow your mind. There were over 100,000 people who descended into Anaheim to see SWC! These fans were of all different ages, ranging as young as a couple years old to senior citizens. There were entire families dressed up as their favorite Star Wars characters, and even an elderly couple rocking Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker outfits. One of the most exciting moments of Celebration was seeing the very first trailer release for the brand new Star Wars movie: The Force Awakens (coming to theaters in December 2015). Then a surprising teaser on Sunday of the newly announced Rogue One anthology movie coming out December 2016. You can only imagine the reaction of the lucky fans that were able to snag a spot in the arena to witness these historical moments. These dedicated supporters slept overnight in the convention lobby just to ensure seats in the Arena for the first showing of the trailer, which was seen within minutes by millions of people worldwide. Their commitment didn’t go unnoticed- director JJ Abrams ended up buying pizza for all who waited overnight. Definitely an evening to remember!

Reaction Audio Visual felt privileged to support Lucasfilm and Disney in the “biggest Star Wars Celebration yet”- as expressed by Kathleen Kennedy, the President of Lucasfilm. We provided all of the event technology that occupied the entire convention center in order to execute a flawless event. For the main arena our techs built a Celebration Stage with a gigantic 80′ wide custom projection screen blend and 88 line array speakers with 17 massive subwoofers that created true 5.1 surround sound. If you were one of the fans who were able to be the very first to view the Episode 7 theatrical trailer release…you would agree that the quality of the visuals and the audio was off the charts! The powerful audio shook the arena of thousands of people during the presentation. In addition, the trailer was streamed live to different areas of the convention center and online to millions of viewers. Reaction Audio Visual provided cutting edge technology to the entire convention: inside the ballroom where attendees were able to view Star Wars movies, different exhibit halls, speaker panels, and the numerous exhibit booths.

This show was challenging from many different perspectives including the size and scope of the event, live recording of well-known actors, the secrecy and anticipation of the trailer and teaser release, along with some serious technical hurdles. And of course Disney is known for their attention to detail and focus on visual and audio perfection so there was no room for error. The event was a huge success and Disney’s Lucasfilm was very happy that their vision for the event exceeded all their expectations. Reaction Audio Visual would like to thank everyone who was involved with this fantastic event and trusting us to provide the best equipment and expertise in this universe at least.
